Something must be done

Health Study

The Texas Department of State Health Services determined there is a cancer cluster in the Fifth Ward and Cashmere Gardens. Some of those folks live in my district (Douglas, 2019).

Texas found a cancer cluster in Houston in August. Residents didn’t find out until December. (houstonchronicle.com)

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has committed to cleaning up the site, which stems from a creosote treatment facility for railroad ties (Fox 26 News, 2022).

I am not interested at pointing fingers at whoever is at fault for this; I'll let the lawyers figure that out. I am, however, interested in the things I can control. As a representative, I will do everything in my power to have the area declared a Texas superfund site, so the families affected can get some help.

I also know I have a lot to learn about this, and I'm still gathering data. I appreciate any and all input from my prospective constituents about this.
